When commercial banks in Goma shut their doors more than twelve months ago, the city’s commerce faced a total institutional freeze. Rather than waiting for traditional financial channels to resume operations, local builders stepped forward with sovereign alternatives.
Gloire Kambale Wanzavalere dropped out of his university law programme six years ago to focus entirely on Bitcoin development. Today, he operates Bridge Sats—an over-the-counter desk and settlement service serving the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The project runs an active federation on the Fedi protocol, where community payments provide an essential lifeline.
In Goma, the banks have been closed for over a year. Gloire Kambale Wanzavalere didn't wait for them to reopen. Fedi highlighted in a builder profile on Thursday, noting that daily transaction settlement remains the primary driver behind local adoption.
